Measuring for a rollerblind with a chain pull for a bay window

Gather your tools

You will need:

  • Two A4 or A5 sheets of paper or card
  • A pencil
  • A metal tape measure
  • A ruler
Step 1Determine the size of the roll

First you will need to know approximately how far out the blind will protrude from the wall. Please use the table on the right to find the measurement that matches your desired roller blind design and size best.

Step 2 – Determine the angle

Then you need to determine the angle of the bay windows, making sure that the roller blinds can hang nicely side by side.

Take the two pieces of paper, and place them next to each other, edge to edge.

A. Use a pencil to make a marking on them based on the diameter size of the roll. If the diameter roll of your roller blind will be approximately 10 cm, you will have to use the ruler to make a 10 cm mark with a pencil.

B. Then place the two sheets of paper next to each other,  but angled along the window sill of the bay. When the pencil markings meet, use the pencil to make a small mark on the window sill where the edge of the paper meets the window frame.

Copy this procedure along all the bay windows.

Step 3 – Measure the roller blind width

C. Then measure the distance between each two drawn pencil markings on the window sill. The gap between the two markings will establish the working width of the roller blind. Please add 0.4 cm to this measurement. This final width measurement should be used when ordering the roller blind with a cord pull.

Step 4 – Measure the roller blind drop

Measure from the top where the blind will be installed down to your desired end point (typically the window sill). Please measure all around the bay, especially in older windows these measures might differ. The final height measurement should be used when ordering the roller blind.

Step 5 – Ordering the roller blinds

Enter the final width and height measurements taken from step 3 and 4, when ordering the roller blind on our website.

Please double-check all measurements before placing your order to ensure a perfect fit!
